COIMBATORE: CPM has demanded that the state govt deploy an adequate number of doctors and nurses in the Valparai govt hospital and improve healthcare facilities.
In a letter to the chief secretary, CPM Valparai taluk secretary P Paramasivam highlighted the lack of healthcare in Valparai. He stated that patients had to be referred to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for any advanced treatment or for even emergency situations.
He alleged that the lack of paediatricians left mothers and their children with inadequate and untimely health assistance.
Paramasivam said, "Tea plantation workers, guest workers and the poor have to travel at least 100 km to get treated. The lack of doctors in the Valparai government hospital has forced the administration to refer the patients to CMCH. Despite travelling so far, the assurance of saving their lives is uncertain due to time constraints.”
According to him, victims and their families suffer a huge loss, specifically in having to bear the expenditure. “Just imagine the situation of children and pregnant women who are in a critical health condition. The lack of infrastructure and workforce puts these vulnerable categories at risk,” he added.
He stated that no regular work of major departments, including the revenue and public works, was taking place due to the ongoing political situation in the state. "People are unable to obtain any certificates, including those required for higher education, like the community certificate. Officials should consider the public inconvenience and take necessary steps," he said.
